The following are statistics taken from April 2016 to March 2017.
England:
Slightly more than half a million incidents were attended by Fire and Rescue Services. Approximately 1/3 of these were actual fires.
From the 116770 fire incidents 261 people died in fires and 7,081 were injured.
Fire related fatalities increase with a person's age; elderly are more than 4 x likely to perish in a fire incident.
Just over 1/3 of all fatalities did not have a working fire alarm fitted.
Main powered smoke alarms were 18% more effective than battery powered ones.
