
MEDICATION AWARENESS (HALF DAY)
Aims: to provide an overview of the process of administering medication safely to clients.
Objectives:
❖ State the legislation that underpins medication administration.
❖ Explain the process you go through from ordering through to administration and also disposal of medicine.
❖ Identify the different routes for administration of medicines and the possible drugs for each one.
MEDICINE MANAGEMENT (FULL DAY)
Aims: to provide an overview of medicine management for nurses and senior staff by examining legislation, guidance and documentation.
Objectives:
❖ Define what a medicine is and medicine management.
❖ List legislation underpinning medication management and classes of medication.
❖ Identify the relevant documentation surrounding medicines.
❖ Explain the nature and form of medicinal prescriptions.
❖ Identify different routes and forms for administration of medicines and the possible drugs for each one.
❖ State what the therapeutic range means and why it is important.
❖ Identify the different drugs and possible complications of four major drugs groups often found in care facilities.
❖ Explain major adverse drug reactions and what actions to take.
